DUE Monday, March 16th.

Write a review of the movie we watched in class, Sophie Scholl.
Be sure to include:
1.) What you liked and disliked about the film.
2.) Your favorite part.
3.) An overall rating (1-5 stars)
4.) Write an alternate ending to the story.
5.) How did the movie make you feel?
6.) Bonus: Read the actual leaflet written by The White Rose Society and tell me what you think about it. What is the most powerful part of the leaflet? Are their any messages in it that are relevant today? Which ones? Why? I challenge you to read all of the leaflets and really consider how brave and amazing these people were. Consider the freedoms you have and the opportunities these freedoms offer you to speak out, through journalism, on the issues you feel are important. Sophie gave her life to speak the truth. What are you willing to give?

1)Sophie Scholl was a pretty good movie i think. I liked how she tried to over throw Hitler, but i dislike how she had to die because she was speaking up for the rights she believed in.
2)I don't really have a favorite part, it was pretty good overall.
3)I would give the movie a 4 because it was overall good, but i didn't think it was THAT good of a movie.
4)My Alternate ending would be that Sophie got to stand up to what she believed in and not be killed because of it.
5)It was a depressing movie, what do you expect?

1.) What I enjoyed about the film was the fact that the script was actually German. I think that was really effective, and made it seem more realistic. The directors interpretation of the actual events was really displayed in an artistic way. What I didnt enjoy about the film was the fact that I knew how it was going to end. It just takes away from the suspense.
2.) My favourite part of the movie was all three of the convicts were standing in the cell, and they said that there actions were not in vain. I felt that they were true to themselves until their deaths.
3.) I would give it a 5
4.) My alternative ending would be that only Sophie and Hanz are executed. Because I feel that Christoph should've been able to take care of his family and keep the legacy of the Wite Rose alive.
5.) The movie made me very tense because I get very into movies when they have an intelligent dialogue. It really captivated me and i just wanted to see what happend in the end, even though I already knew what the outcome would be.
6.) The whole leaflet is filled with powerful statements. It is so amazing that these people were willing to risk their lives to save their people from the true enemy, Hitler. He was leading them into the abyss and because of these words people opened their eyes.
" It has become a
mathematical certainty that Hitler is leading the German people into the abyss." I think that this is the most powerful statement because it is speaking to the entire German nation. They were all being deceiced by one man and it wasn't clear to them because he had instilled them with fear. The bravery of the White Rose proved that the power of the people is stronger than the power of just one man.
"Prove by your
deeds that you think otherwise." This statement really stood out to me, because truly feel that no matter what time period you're living in you should think for yourself and not just sheepishly follow the ideas of those who are unrealistic, greedy and idealistic. When people are no longer able to decide for themselves then we have truly failed. If we do not stand up for what we believe in we are allowing people to control us. These leaflets are so outspoken and are so well written, if only people could nderstand their significance in even today's society, as well as the times of the past.
1.) I liked how accurate the film was. The fact that everything they said in the questioning was true really was cool. I don't think there is anything to dislike about the film at all. I could see why people wouldn't like it showing the guillotine, but if they didn't show that we wouldn't know exactly what happened to them.
2.) My favorite part would have to be the concluding sentences they say in the trial. Cristoph saying that he just wants to go home to his wife and three kids. Hans saying: "We may get hanged today, but you will get hanged tomorrow." I forgot exactly what Sophie says, but I remember that it was touching.
3.) I give it a 4 1/2
4.) An alternate ending: After a few days or so of the killing of Probst, Hans and Sophie, they should have showed if the students reacted to what the pamphlet said and what happened to the judge and the detective.
5.) It makes me feel that it should be worth anything to tell the truth about something.
If you want to read an A+ response, read Mikyla's entry. Just don't copy and paste it! It makes me wonder if South Africa is doing a better job of educating their youth.

i did like it because it told me about the ninteze

i dont know what else to stay but it was sad
I really enjoyed the movie there wasnt anything that i didn't like about it. I really thought it was great that the film was in german I think that really helped set the scene. Plus i dont mind reading the subtitles. I also like that it didn't have a lot of comedy or action because it was made for a purpose and movies dont have to be funny to be good. My favorite part was when sophie pushed the leaflets off of the top story because the way it was shot was really good. i give the movie 5 stars it was probably one of the best i've seen. Im not gonna write an alternate ending because i think the end waw great. I really wouldnt change anything about it. The film made me feel like i dont have to be old or a man or fight to make a difference in the world.
1)I loved The movsie actally, its not somthing i would watch every day but i did learn a thing or two from it.The fact that it was in german set the tone and mood of the seriousness of the movie , i liked it. I liked that sophie and her brother took a stand for what they belived in a didnt regret any of their actions. I hatr that more people didnt stand at their side.
2)My favorite part of the movie was the court scene because even though the judge was a person of authority she or her brother didnt let him intimidate them or make them crack they took there stand .
3)I give the movie a 10
4) My ending would be that Sophie, Hans, and christoph would be excuted but not before they were able to spaek with Hitler. In there metting They Would Express there thoughts to him, He would do the same. There would be a small revolt against hitler where more people got involved . Sophie , Hans , And christophe would see that their actions helped others . AThen they would be excuted.
5)It made me realize that some where along the line were going to need a leader, if we dont step up and fight for what we belive in who will. we have to be the leaders, Like Sophie , Hans, And christoph.

1.) What i like about the film was that sophie stood up for what she belived in even do it took her life and didnt try to take the easy way out by taking the others down and not she get out of it, what i disliked about the film was that she was killed because she stood up for her and the people.
2.) My favorite part of the film was when she was getting questioned she didnt break under the pressure she stayed strong and didnt let anyone take her pride away even after she got caught.
3.) 5 stars that was one of the best movies that i have ever watched it had alot of strong meaning in it
4.) My ending of the story would be that when they went to be- head her that they ran in and said that she dont have to be killed there free.
5.) The movie made me feel concern about the people that had to go threw that the people that had a life that they really didnt control thereself.
1) I really like how the film was actually based on a true story and how they transformed this part of Sophie Scholl's life into such a great and moving movie. I pretty much wouldn't change anything about this movie.
2)My favorite part of the movie I would have to say would be was when Sophie was being interrogated and stay true to herself by not trying to get herself out of trouble about the situation but decided to as well take the consequences just like the others who were involved.
3)5 stars for this movie!
4)My alternate ending to the story would be that Sophie was not beheaded but that they should have given her, her brother and Probst at least a fair sentence in jail.
5)This movie was very touching and made me learn much more than what I have learned last year in the 8th grade about Hitler and the Nazi's. It showed me another person's perspective and their life story of how they felt about that time in history and how they took action to show their opinion and stood up for what they believe in knowing what was going on was wrong. Especially since I'm definetly not a big fan of historical movies or movies concerning the Nazi war time, this movie suprisingly kept on the edge of my chair and leaving me wanting to learn much more about who Sophie Scholl was.
1)The only part i didn't really like about the film that it was in subtitles. It made it a little harder to keep up with the movie because you had to read it, but i thought it was a good story and i like that they used the actual conversations recorded from the interigation.
2)My favorite part of the movie was the end, i thought it showed the unforgiving consequences and i like the way the lighting was and how she reacted when she walked outside.
3)4 stars.
4)in the alternate ending, i would have them be rescued by the American army and they would escape and help spread the word about the leaflets.
5)it made me feel proud that i live in america and disappointed that someone such as hitler could take control of so many people and have them killed for basically no reason at all.
1)One thing that I liked about the film was that the film stayed as close as possible with history. The interrogation and the court case, were the same words that the real people said. I felt that the acting was also good, and since that it was in German it made the film more real. There was really nothing that I disliked about the movie
2) My favorite part was at the very beginning when they were distributing the leaflets. I thought that it was exciting, and I was wondering how they would get caught.
3) 5 Stars
4) My alternate ending would be that instead of the three being killed for their punishment, they would be sentence to life in jail for their punishment (at least until the Nazi party is outlawed).
5) The movie made me feel inspired that they would risk their life to fight for what they believed in. The movie also made me feel sad when at the end Sophie, and the others were dead by the guillotine.
6) I thought that the actual leaflet written by The White Rose Society was interesting on how the Germans of the White Rose would sacrifice their life’s for their country, because they did not think what Hitler was doing, was morale, or good for their country. I thought that the most powerful part of the leaflet was in the middle paragraph, when it said: “Germans! Do you and your children want to suffer the same fate that befell the Jews? Do you want to be judged by the same standards are your traducers? Are we to be forever a nation which is hated and rejected by all mankind? No…” I think that this is the most powerful part because it is asking you if you want the have the same fate as the Jews and if you want to be looked down upon from the rest of the world. And then it continues by saying that they could rebel from the Nazis and set up a new government. I think when the leaflet said “Blindly they follow their seducers into ruin. Victory at any price! is inscribed on their banner”, would be relevant today because most citizens do not follow what are leaders are doing, and that some people just agree what are leaders say and do. When I read most the leaflets(I could not read the fourth and the last leaflet), I felt more inspired, because these people stood up for what they believed in, even though they could and did die for it. Very few people would do that, some people do not stand up for what is right even if the worst outcome could be losing their job or something that is not as bad.

1)I liked how the movie was in German. I thought it was a cool way to watch the movie with the subtitles. I really didn't like one part of the movie. It was overall a great movie.
2) I liked the very end. I mean, I don't like the fact that they died. But I did like the fact that they died for their country. The way the director had the lighting in that last room was very creepy. I liked how it went black and all you heard was the guillotine. It was very morbid. I don't know I liked it.
3) I would give it 5 stars.
4) My alternative ending would be that Christof did not get executed. I feel like he should have been able to take care of his family. I think that you still need to have Hans and Sophie executed to show how they had died for what they believed and to get a point across.
5) It made me excited. It's like they knew what they where doing and how they would be punished, but they did not care. They fought until the very end. I knew the ending, so I kept wanting to try and figure out what was going to happen next to get to the ending.
6) The first leaflet had many strong statements. What they said was true, because it came straight from their hearts. They wanted people to see that what Hitler was doing was wrong. They used ritorical questions that would grab people's attentions. "Do you and your children want to suffer the same fate that befell the Jews? Do you want to be
judged by the same standards are your traducers? Are we to be forever a nation which is hated and
rejected by all mankind? No." This technique of writing persuades readers to go along with the questions and answers. The statement thought that really stood out to me was : " 'I will fight to the last man,' says
Hitler-but in the meantime the war has already been lost." They wanted everyone to know that Hitler was defeated and the war was over, yet they were still fighting. The White Rose Society truly believed that what Hitler was done and wanted people to know what they thought. I loved they used Hitler's quote with that one point. It was a strong transition into telling everyone that what he was doing then was wrong.
1) I liked the mood this movie gave off. It was a sort of strong and very ambitious feeling. I also like that it was a true story but didn't like that Cristof was beheaded.
2) My favorite part of the movie was the fact that Sophie continued to admitt that she printed the leaflets even though the agent persisted that she deny it.
3) 3 1/2
4) I mwould have liked for her to actually had 99 days till her death sentnce and in between that the US or someone invade and free her. Her to be united with her fiance and have children like i'd hope she liked. But that kind of ending is expected =/.
5)This movie sort of made me angry but gave me a sense of pride and ritousness, knowing that I could do the same without punishment.

I liked how the lighting of the movie and the music that was playing in the background. My favorite part was when Sophie and Hans distributed the leaflets because they were showing that they were brave. I will rate this flim as a 2.5. My alternative ending would be that Sophie and Hans plus Cristof would be free to go because i dont think they did anything wrong. It made me feel sad because i dont think they should have went through of what they did.
What I really liked about the movie was how Sophie was such a strong and intelligent girl and she did what she believed in knowing the consequences. The only thing i didn't like about the movie is how it took place in that dark gloomy office. I have no favorite part. I give this movie a 4 because it was really great and taught me alot but I hated reading the subtitles, (even though some of the best movies are in foreign language)and I didn't like how it was so depressing. The movie made me feel like I to can make a difference.

1.) One thing that I liked about the film was the fact that Sophie had an option to save herself from being executed, but instead she pleaded guilty and accepted the consequences she faced. However, I disliked having to read the subtitles throughtout the entire film. If the film was in English, i could better understand the tone and emotions in the actors dialogue.
2.) My favorite part of the film was near the end during the court hearing. The court hearing was full of suspense and drama.
3.) I give the film a 5 star rating. The film was dramatic and very powerful, unlike most of today's films.
4.) At the end of the court hearing when the judge and the crowd saluted Hitler, I think it would be interesting if the only person who saluted Hitler was the judge. Then all of the members and individuals in the court(execept the judge) realized how Sophie, Hanz, and Christopher were all innocent. Then even some of these individuals resigned from their positions and secretely continued the White Rose organization.
5.) The movie easily captured my attention and interest. ALthough, there were numerous parts of the film where I felt pissed off and outraged. It was obsurd how Hitler influenced so many individuals into supporting him. Even when many individuals disliked Hitlers laws and actions, they still weren't brave enough to stand up for their morals and beliefs.

Andrew, Courtland & Simone,
How about sharing your intellect with us DURING class? You've obviously got some wonderful thoughts. Don't hold them back during class discussions!

1.) What you liked and disliked about the film.
I liked the fact that it was about a young women standing up for what she believes in and trying to overthrow Hitler. Most movies in that time period wouldn't show a "women" doing something that brave. I didn't like the fact that she got killed for it, but I was expecting it.
2.) Your favorite part.
I liked the last part whenver she went into the bright room, it just gave the whole movie a weird feeling, and when they got killed at the end I liked how that was the last part of the movie, because I after watching it, and that being the last picture in your mind, it really gives you something to think about.
3.) An overall rating (1-5 stars)
I would give this movie a 4. I really enjoyed it but I think it would be easier for me to follow if it wasn't in German, and wasn't taken place in pretty much one room the whole time.
4.) Write an alternate ending to the story.
I think a better ending to this would be if Sophie, Christopher, and Hanz actually succeeded in their plans and overthrew Hitler. That would show people that if you try hard enough you can overcome anything.
5.) How did the movie make you feel?
After the movie, I felt pretty depressed but it also gave me a lot to think about. I admire Sophie so much for what she did. I'm not happy she died but at least she died with pride, fighting for something she really believed in.

1)I like how Sophie and her brothers and friends try to make a different durning there time and let other people try to see how Hilter was effecting the world and what he was doing to the world. What i dislike was that you had to read the subscripts you really couldnt watch movie,it would of been better if it was just a english movie cause maybe people can get more into the movie.
2)My favorite part in the movie is when her and that man have a big fuss and she prove him wrong. Then he realize what she saying is right.
3)I would give it a 4
4)The end of the movie is like the judge say that they is guilty and all of them is given a death sentence.Which they didnt deserve cause all they try to do was make a change in the world. Then they all got meet up with eachother and say the last goodbyes and when sophie walk out she said something to theman that she had a big fuss with and he ut his head down cause he knew she right and then all of them got killed one at a time.
5)The movie made me feel like that it was wrong for them to kill someone that had different thought of hilter and what he was doing was wrong.I think every one living at that time had a different look on it but they didint have the heart like Sophie and her brother and friends did and speak out on it.

I Agree with matt.Really didnt like the subtitles that much. But once you got the hang of it,it wasnt that hard to read.Which my stepmom is from austria so i should be able to understand that.(but i dont)ha.I Did like when sophie tried to protect the others when she got caught.I can respect her for that.Too bad it didnt work.My favorite part would hafe to be in the court room when sophie and her brother still speak what they feel is right even in front of the judge who could have possibly spared there life.but instead of sucking up to him they spoke what they felt.I would give it a 4.Because nothings ever perfect.& it is a good movie but would have been a better one if we could have heard it in english=)My alternate ending would be that right when they were about to get excuted A man runs in & stops it and says the war is over.& there free to be let go.=)The movie made me feel glad that i live in america & we have some what freedom of speech.

1.) What you liked and disliked about the film.
I liked how the film was historically accurate. the director did a very good job of portraying the story as accurate as he could without making it too boring. i think that the characters speaking german helped give it an authentic feel. i think it would've been awkward if the movie was in english. i disliked how the film started out with them being caught. i think the film shouldve started earlier in time to give us more background information. for example, who were the nazis, how did the white rose society start, whats going on with the war. this would help people who don't know alot about WWII and the nazis.
2.) Your favorite part.
my favorite part was the interrogation. i liked how sophie never gave in to the pressure or the deal the officer made to her. she stuck by beliefs and was willing to accept the consequences for it. i also liked how the writer didnt make up his own dialogue and used the actual dialogue from the real interrogation. that also made the film feel more "real".
3.) An overall rating (1-5 stars)
i would give this film 5 stars because it was historically accurate without being too boring.
4.) Write an alternate ending to the story.
i think the film had a very good ending. in the courtroom, it showed the peoples faces and we knew they didnt actually believe what was happening was right. it showed how scared people really were during that time. i also dont think sophie and the others should've been spared. the fact that they were executed made the film more powerful and really sparked peoples anger and hatred towards the nazis. but i do think they should've showed what happened after their executions and what impact sophie made after she died.
5.) How did the movie make you feel?
the movie was very suspenseful so it made me feel tense. but it also made me feel angry towards the nazis and sorry for sophie because she was punished for only expressing her opinions.
1. i liked the fact that she was willing to die for this organization
2. when her head got cut off that was pretty sweet hearing the sound
3.4
